3RRSS Hyper Reaction

For those of you that have been following my reviews for sometime
now, you have probably come to the conclusion that I rather enjoy
importing Japanese dating sim games for my Sega systems. The thing
is, though, with those games you either can navigate the game easily
or you cannot. However there is but another huge genre of games for
the perverted import gamer to partake in, one that once is learned is
easy to play. I am of course talking about the strip-mahjong, anime
genre Prominently featured on the Saturn when Sega allowed more
nudity (and there were red label games), Sega then decided to be more
family friendly and put a stop to nudity in games. After that, strip
mahjong games got down to the bras and panties only. However, here
we have Hyper Reaction R Mahjong (here after Hyper Reaction): a
game that was put out before the ban. So are these games worth your
time and money, and just how deserving of the red label are they? Find
out now!

Mahjong is a very ancient and time honored game that is much more
popular in Japan and China than in America. The strip anime games
have been coming out in the arcades since the 1980's and continue to
be released in Japan. In Hyper Reaction Sammy has ported over their
original strip mahjong hit and added one new girl to the mix. The
premise is that you play mahjong with hot girls and when you win you
get to see them naked. Sweet. Story-wise you can't expect much and
there really is little story to be had. The three girls are Kaoru and Neimi
from the arcade, and they are joined by sweet little Yuka. The first girl
is a hot red head with heaving breasts, the second one is a slightly
older and more sophisticated woman (which I find the hottest), and the
final girl is a cute school girl With glasses. Yeah baby.

The basic game of mahjong seems very hard to understand at first, but
if you really want to see anime boobies then I'm sure you'll learn the
rules fast. In mahjong there are all these tiles (over 100) and you
typically want to have four sets and a pair. That means four sets of
tiles that go together (in numerical order, the same or type) and a pair
is just two of the same tiles. Get these and declare mahjong to win.
That is a very simple overview to the game, and I suggest that if you
want to learn the basic game play and tile sets, then please visit this
site: mahjonginmame.nm. That's where I learned to play and it helped a
lot. Going in, I had tried the game and never won, but after printing off
the tile pictures and rules I was soon beating the game.

Addicting is a good word to describe mahjong. Once you learn how to
play it is a fun way to pass the time. In Hyper Reaction you have Story
mode and Free mode. Story mode goes through all three of the girls in
order, and in Free mode you just pick who you want to play with no
anime cutscenes or strip-scenes. However you are rewarded clean CG
in free mode for those interested. In Story mode, every time you win a
match with the girl she takes off an article of clothing. This is done in
semi-grainy anime cutscenes. The game goes down to topless only, so
yes, you do get to see nipples and boobs. Then you move on to the
next girl.

There are some things I should point out though. How fast you win or
how many points you get in your mahjong somehow determines
different anime scenes. When I was blowing through the game I get
different scenes then when I was sucking. When you suck the strip
scenes are not as good. This can get fairly frustrating as I still do not
know all of the rules and strategies of mahjong. I do know enough to
eventually win. It can take a while to win if you're not too great. For
me, I would spend two hours at a time just trying to get through all
three girls. There is no save feature or anything, so that kinda sucks.
The computer can be set at varying difficulties, mine is always set at
yasashi (easy); you won't find kibishi (strict) on mine.

The graphics are overall very pleasing. The main game screen is a nice
green colored back ground with nice little tiles and the anime girl's
face in the middle of the screen. She makes faces and reacts to all the
moves you do, celebrating if you do bad, and sighing if you do good.
Very nice animation here. The anime scenes, while a little grainy, are
found throughout, before, after, and during matches. There is an
opening intro to the game that introduces all the girls. There were
about five or six strip scenes for each girl if I remember correctly. The
menu graphics and loading screens are done up in a super-deformed
anime art style, and it's all very cute. Cute and perverted, all in one
game; I love it. I mean it was very hot when the first girl took her pants
off first to reveal her nice pink panties. She then proceeded to rip her
shirt off revealing her precious breasts placed firmly in her bra.
Nervous and beaten after that she slowly removes her bra, and then
reveals her magnificent cleavage for you to see. If reading the last few
lines were exciting to you, you might want to check these things out
as strip mahjong might be for you!

The sound is nice, all the girls have voices, and the music is upbeat.
However, I tend to just mute the game and pop in my own music. It's
not that the music is bad, but if I'm going to be sitting in one place for
over an hour trying to see anime breasts, then I want to have only the
best music. The main music theme can get repetitive after a while so
it's good to have some CDs on hand to counter that. Tiles swoosh and
do the normal tile noises, but come on you're not playing a strip
mahjong game for the sound, right?

Replay? Your gonna replay this game at first just to get better. Play
Free mode to get the CGs (three for each girl), and try to get the best
strip scenes and beat the game. It's gonna take a while if you're new
to mahjong. The main drawing point here is the strip scenes, and you'll
probably want to view them again so you have to play to see them
(there appears to be no cinema mode to re-watch strip animations,
darn). There is no two-player mahjong, and eventually you'll want to
move on. It all depends on one essential question. How much do I like
seeing cute anime girls take off their clothes?

Getting into the strip mahjong scene was fun, and I can see myself
buying more of these types of games. However, I would want ones that
offer more girls, as three girls is just not enough. The red label is
certainly needed here though, anime nipples and all. Looking back on
Hyper Reaction, I would say that I would not pay very much for these
games. They are made for perverts and do not have as good as art as
some of the big dating sims, and don't feature the engrossing stories
of dating sims. But it is a fun way to spend the night alone. So for those
of you that are looking for hot anime import games and find dating
sims to be too textual, then learn some mahjong and get ready to take
it all off. Or you could just get a real girlfriend. My, what a concept! Ha
