Welcome to the Sega Collectors' Guild. Many of you may be wondering
what exactly the Guild (which I will refer to as SCG ) is and why it exists. Well, to put it briefly:
I created this website for several reasons. First of all, I created it out
of my passion for Sega. I have always been obsessed with Sega but have only recently rekindled my desire to collect Sega products. I am not exactly sure how this desire came about---maybe it did because Sega is the greatest videogame company in the industry and deserves devoted fans like me, maybe it is because it reminds me of my childhood, maybe I just like the color blue. Sega did not introduce me to videogames (that honor goes to Mattel's Intellivision), nor did they produce the first system that I owned (that honor goes to Nintendo), but Sega is the company that made me love videogames and that counts more than anything else. So perhaps that is where my desire to collect Sega products comes from.
Which brings me to the second reason I created SCG: my frustration
over the lack of information about classic Sega gaming. While attempting to collect the top games for each Sega system I discovered that there was no website completely dedicated to collecting classic Sega games (or if there is, it is way too difficult to find). There was no site that had everything I wanted to know: the top games for each Sega system, the most rare products, etc. So, I decided to take up the task myself and after months of research (and a lifetime of experience), I now consider myself very knowledgeable on the subject. While I admit that I still have much to learn, I feel that this site should prove to be a reliable guide for anyone interested in classic Sega gaming and collecting.
This site will feature many helpful and informational areas that will aid
anyone interested in classic Sega collecting, so I have created a short description of the various areas of the site, which can be read here.
From what I have learned so far, though, collecting videogames is one
of the coolest hobbies in the history of the world. Sure you can fall victim to the cheaper and less time consuming hobby of emulation and still enjoy all the old videogames you missed out on, but it's just not the same and it will never be so. There is just that much more gratification in actually owning the original and being able to store it on a shelf (and of course take it off and play it). Not that I am knocking emulation---for some people it is the only way they can play these classic games---but for those who have the same passion for videogames that I do there is no other option than to start collecting.
I will always be eager to receive any advice on the subject, as my true
intention is for the Sega Collectors Guild to become just that--- a guild; an association of gamers bound together by their interest in collecting and playing classic Sega games. So, I hope you enjoy the SCG and find it to be an interesting and fun place to visit. And if you are like I was but only a short while ago, searching hopelessly for a website to get you started on the collecting process, I hope that you have struck gold in your discovery of this site. Be sure to browse around, every section has a short introduction explaining its purpose. If you're looking for something particular and can't seem to find it that doesn't mean it's not somewhere in the site. So don't hesitate to email me with your questions because I'd be more than happy to help you out. Better yet, try the Forum.

advice, check out the Site Info section. To learn more about me read my Staff Biography. Looking for nostalgia? Read the Site History. |
